Confession of My Latest Obsession {Beware: This Post Isn't About Parties}

Okay, I'm going to confess....
I am lovesick obsessed teenager at heart. Not to mention my OCD, which makes obsessive behavior pretty typical for me. I was OBSESSED with New Kids on the Block during my younger days. I really need to share a photo of my room so you can understand the depth of my obsession. My mom was nice enough to let me "decorate" however I wanted, which meant a picture of Joe or Jordan plastered on every inch of my room. Even pictures pinned on my lampshade. I mean everywhere.
Last year when they made their comeback, I went right back to being obsessed.
It felt like yesterday.

During college, the movie, Titanic came out. I again felt that same OBSESSIVENESS. It just got me. I determined that I was so connected with it, that I must have died on the Titanic in my previous life (or something). I watched it seven (yes, 7) times in the theater. I waited in line (with my now, husband :) at midnight the day the VIDEO was released. One of my prized possessions is a limited edition framed piece of wood from the ship in the movie that my then-boyfriend, now husband bought me. I have books, magazines....and yes, I was obsessed with Leo. Weren't you?

{i'll never let go, jack....i'll never let go}

My friend, Shannon finally convinced me to read THE vampire book this summer. Like many, I was leery of the whole sci-fi vampire "thing". However, it's so much more than that!
It was AMAZING. I LOVED IT.
I finished it in two days (my family missed me those days while I was in la-la land), and rented the movie the next day. And the day after that? Ran to the store for New Moon. At that point, I knew I had it.....the Twilight Fever and I now I know...I have it bad.

My 12-year old neighbor (yes, I'm friends with a seventh grader...) texted me the night of the New Moon Premiere, and asked if I was going. I wasn't, and I thought "why not?!" Her mom wouldn't let her go since she had school the next day, but me...the 32 year old....I should have gone! This is what obsessive teenagers/cougars do! It was too late to try to go, but I figured I could convince my hubby to take me this weekend for our date night. Well, we had a fabulous dinner and then headed to the theater. He decided New Moon just wasn't up his alley (he's probably right), and wanted to see something else.
Not me...I was going with or without him. And I did just that! :)
We went to our separate theaters....
and boy, did I enjoy my time alone with Jacob (& Edward)!
I walked out smiling to myself (a big smile), I just couldn't help it! :)

Now, I can't stop thinking about the movie (and Jacob)
....and I need to go buy Eclipse!
Please confess. (don't be afraid)
Are you with me on this or should I stop acting like a silly lovestruck teenager?

  1. Ha! You and I share a history of the same obsessions! NKOTB (I melt everytime Please Don't Go Girl pops up on my iPod), Titanic (you beat me though, I think I only saw it 4 times in the theater...and didn't even mind when I had to sit in the very front row). And the Twilight series...aah. I would read during my lunch and keep reading while I walked to the playground to pick up my class from recess. I couldn't find Eclipse in a store and thought I would die without it. The school nurse saved my life and let me borrow her copy. I NEED to see New Moon! In the meantime, maybe I'll curl up under a blanket and watch Titanic tonight!

  2. Are you kidding? We are both obssesed! Micki read Twilight and New Moon first, and had been begging me to read them, but I resisted. It wasn't until she and a friend got me an autographed (yes you can covet) copy of Twilight, did I pick it up (I had to, my name was in it). I devoured it in a day, ditto for New Moon. I had to wait 4 months for Eclipse to come out. When it was time for Breaking Dawn, I reread the other three. I read all four books in 5 days (yes, my family thought I had left them forever). As soon as I finished Breaking Dawn, I started it over again (so I have read each one twice). But, it doesn't stop there, I own them on cd too, and have listened to all of them. I saw Twilight in the theater 2ce (of course once on opening day), as did Micki. She went to New Moon at midnight last Thurs, I didn't go until Sat, but I can hardly wait to see it again. We both think Jacob is HOT (Micki wants to know if that makes us pedofiles, I told her no, we just have good taste). That's probably more than you wanted to hear about these Twilight obsessed crafters, but you did ask.

  3. Yes I am totally 100% in LOVE with Twilight Series. I picked the book up at my weekly trip to Barnes and Nobel. My husband has been deployed for 7 months and I find myself wanting to read love stories. I am so hooked I have read them 3 times each! I can't wait to see the movie tomorrow night (going to be with family so I will have a sitter for my 1 year old). So don't worry you are not alone, I am 27 and I just love these books.

  4. I am there with you with New Kids! I loved Joey, thought I was going to marry him and since that didn't work out subsequently hate his wife now, just because she IS married to him. (although I, obviously love my husband now, but you know what i'm sayin')
I will most likely go to see New Moon by myself too...I was embarrassed when I was reading the books and then realized all my mommy friends were also reading or had read them, so I was not alone...neither are you...but I am Team Edward all the way ;)

  5. I'm totally with you. I'm still a bit embarrassed at how I abandoned my family while I read the Twilight series. I went to see the movie at midnight with 10 of my friends and we had a blast! Of course the theater was filled with teenagers but we didn't care! I must admit that I was swayed a bit in the movie by Jacob... I thought he did great!

  6. TOTALLY with you!!! I loved NKOTB and totally got sucked into the Twilight thing. I seriously have become a giddy tweenager again!!!

  7. I am in LOVE with the Twilight series!! I still haven't seen the movie (1-year-old daughter and deployed husband is making it hard), but I'm going this weekend with my sister and I can't wait! I've heard it's amazing. If you loved New Moon you will REALLY love Eclipse, it was even better (and I heard the movie comes out next summer)!

  8. That is so funny! It must be something with our age group (I'm 33) and I loved NKOTB. I too was obsessed and had my room decorated to the hilt! Now, Twilight I have to say is the best thing ever! It takes my obsession to a new level. I'm on "Team Jacob" and my husband is totally mortified that I'm fawning over a teenage movie! I read all 4 books in a week....I will say that the author Stephanie Meyer should be an inspiration to all mothers out there that have a idea or passion and think that they can't succeed. If she can do it then we all can!

  9. My cousin and aunts are equally obsessed with the Twilight series. I haven't read any of the books (YET) nor seen either of the movies. My cousin recently posted on FB, "do you feel guilty for lusting Jacob when you know he is 17??" I almost fell out of my chair. COUGAR ON!

  10. I'm with you on the NKOTB obsession - isn't it great being old enough to go to the concerts with your own money now? I went 7 times in the past year-ish, and I can't wait to go again. Reliving your teenage years as an adult is the best thing ever!

  11. She was obsessed! And with my now husband who looked liked Joey Ha! I would love to see Kate's room like that one day and see if you let her decorate it that way. hehehehe. That's funny I bought Titanic at midnight too at blockbuster!! I did love me some Leo. I need to read Twilight. I have it. Maybe this weekend......

  12. Kim, you are hilarious! I hate to admit that I haven't even seen the first Twilight movie yet, but I fully support you in your 'teenage obsession." Believe me, I have my own that I will not speak of ; )

  13. Yep, we have similiar tastes! I am also 32, and I had the NKOTB posters all over my part of the room (shared it with my sister). You are too funny!

  20. I love to hear things like this seeing that I do have NKOTB on my Ipod and I swore that I wasn't going to read those "vampire books". Then a friend finally talked me into it and I was hooked and yes I was at the movies this weekend loving it!!!

  21. It's not just you. :) I went to the midnight showing on opening night and then again the next day. LOL!

  22. Girl, I LOVE Twilight and went to the midnight showing. I also loved NKOTB as a little girl, although wasn't into it when they had their comeback. So are you Team Jacob or Edward? Team Edward all the way for me!

  23. I confess...I'm a 35 year old mom of 3 and I'm obsessed with Twilight too :) I even read Eclipse while I was in LABOR with my last child...seriously it really helped! Awww Edward....although I haven't seen the new movie yet, I know I can't take hubby...I have to drool over Jacob's abs with my girlfriends.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, I will raise my hand on this one! I used to be SO Team Edward... and now, after seeing the movie... I am waivering! Wow, those shirtless Jacob scenes are just something else! ;) Go finish the series! It's so cheesy, but OH so much fun, and as long as we're not taking it too seriously, right? RIGHT!!!

  25. So, my cousin sent me this article and I about died! 29 here. No, I wasn't in love with NKOTB...but wow. I saw Titanic 8 times in the theater!! AND waited in line at Blockbuster at midnight just to get it (VHS BABY!) I avoided the whole Twilight thing for as long as I could...I HATED seeing Twilight flare on facebook. Then a friend of mine said she read it and loved it. So...I borrowed her copy, took a few weeks to pick it up and when I did...I was IN LOVE. Luckily it was Christmas and I got the other books as gifts (probably because every other word out of my mouth was "TWILIGHT, I NEED TWILIGHT!") It was pretty sad. Since it was the holidays it took me about a week to read the saga with all the family visits and stuff. I have seen Twilight about 15 times...and I was there at midnight for New Moon. I was 100% Team Edward...but WHOA. I didn't hear a word Jacob said through that whole movie!!! Good lawd that boy is fine. My darling of a husband stood in line for 20 mins to get me the souvenir cup! Thats love.

  26. Honey, I'm glad you have join the crowd. I have a major obsession with Twillight. And, after the movie, I have officially converted to Team Jacob. Hello hottie! Is there something wrong with the fact that I'm nearly 40 and I'm drooling over a 17 year old? I think not. Oh, and Titanic? My favorite movie of ALL TIME!!! There is nothing wrong with obsessions. It's how I got my husband to marry me after seven years! Go read about my obsession with Andre Agassi on my blog. It might make you feel better. http://thechasegang.blogspot.com/2009/10/check-that-off-of-my-bucket-list.html

  27. Hah! Totally with you. I made fun of the series until my book club decided to read Twilight and got me sucked in. Before I knew it, I'd read them all and seen the movie! I haven't gotten to see New Moon yet, but plans are in the works!!! It's fun acting like a lovesick teenager sometimes. ;)

  28. Hi Kim,

I'm from Vancouver, Canada and I've been reading your blog ever since I discovered your lollipop invitations back in February. Fabulous!

I'm 33 and I can totally relate to the whole NKOTB obsession! Loved them! Loved them!

I also abandoned my family to read the Twilight series...let's just say that I took my children to one of those indoor playgrounds and we were there for almost 6 hours, so that I could finish Twilight. lol. I was HOOKED! I managed to get a couple of my book club friends hooked too and we went on a hunting expedition to scope the cast out...they've been filming here, you know!

Anyway, I wanted to let you know about "Midnight Sun"...it is Twilight told from Edward's perspective....SOOO much better than Bella's sometimes whiny version....follow this link...and if you don't mind reading 264 pages off of your computer...happy reading...

  29. What took you soo long?! Twilight is amazing..I feel like I am in a Twilight daze when I take a few days out to read the books- and then I need to stop to check back with reality.
You should have your husband watch the movie. Mine doesn't do the chick flick thing and found Twlight kinda entertaining but like New Moon- it had more 'guy' scenes!

  30. SO with ya sister. I read all four books in two weeks and now wish I would have put some space in between them so that I could feed this fire inside me!

  31. hey I woulda gone, too--Marc would definitely be a no-show to that movie.

and don't even get me started on my Backstreet Boys fetish...

    happy thanksgiving!

  33. Okay... I confess!

I was not into New Kids, but all of the others I was/am too.

I have always been fascinated by the story of Titanic and when the movie came out I was there!

I was able to go to the travel artifacts show of the Titanic when it was in L.A.

At the beginning of the tour they gave you a boarding pass of an actual passenger aboard the boat and when I went through the tour I was able to see a large part of the hull of the actual ship. My passport had me in a cabin on the other side of this hull. It was amazing, shocking, and memorable. I, or should I say my passenger, survived the sinking of the ship.

The exhibit had a replica of an ice burg at the temperature of the ocean at the time, which they let touch. Within one minute of having my hand on the ice I had to release my hand it was so cold. I can't imaging their pain.

  35. What a fun post Kim! I haven't a clue about the New Moon rage and never really got into NKOTB but I was also obsessed with Titanic and love Leo to this day!
Happy turkey day to you and your sweet family. :-)

  36. Totally with you! I devoured these books... who doesn't love a love story? I don't mind that I'm a 28 year old acting like a 16 year old tween... these books are great!

  37. You make me laugh! Oh I have always been on team Jacob - he always seemed funny to me reading the books and after seeing the movie and those abs... I'm not changing teams!

  39. Love the post. I have read all 4 of the books and went with 5 girl friends to see New Moon. I even ran into one of the preschool mom's from my daughter school. We chatted while waiting in line for over an hour to see the movie. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  40. Oh my gosh, I've finally found someone that's still obsessed with Titanic (the greatest movie ever!!!). I saw it when I was still in fourth grade and even though I loved it sooo much, my parents wouldn't let me see it again because they thought some scenes were too much for a kid my age. I ended up renting it on VCD a few months after.

I've seen Titanic so many times I no longer kept count. A few years ago there was this release of limited edition 3-DISCS Titanic DVD , which included an hour or so worth of deleted scenes never shown before. I was so excited. I just HAD to have it!! So I saved hard and since it was not release in my country, I begged my friend, who's living in the US, to buy it for me and send it over to me. He did it and I got my special Titanic DVD!!! It still is the greatest movie ever made.

My other obsession is the FRIENDS TV Series. I love, love, love, love that soap. I've watched ever single of their episode at least three times and not once did I not laugh at their jokes. I swear, if there was a FRIENDS movie, I'll be the first in line. I am just completely obsessed by it.

As for the Twilight saga, I'm not really a fan. But I do agree, Jacob is so hot.

  41. I read Twilight (and the others) last November because I wanted to be able to talk to my students about it. I was instantly hooked. I think I finished the series in a week.

My new obsession that I'm way too old for is Sarah Dessen...her novels are wonderful! Of course, since I teach high school English I can use that as an excuse for reading YA Lit...but that's only an excuse!

  42. The books and the movies are amazing!!! i can not wait to go see eclipse in theaters!!! it comes out june 30th for those of you who don't know..... go see it!!

  43. I too was INSANELY obsessed with NKOTB... I had every inch of my bedroom walls filled with posters. Even where posters met, I had tiny photos of them. I couldn't get enough.
When Joe popped up on Dancing with the Stars I giggled like a school girl ...my husband picked on me but I didn't care.
The morning of August 8, 2008 my girl friend called me to tell me that NKOTB was going to be at the Mall of America (I live in the burbs of Mpls) that evening for a pre-release party.
I got to meet them!!! And though I was a Joe McIntyre girl....I got a hug from Donnie and damn near melted into the floor!
I missed my mother's birthday to meet them and when I called to explain she laughed and agreed that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity...just took me 20 years to get it!
I have never laughed at myself so hard... it was SO MUCH FUN.

  44. oooh, we're kindred spirits! I LOVE NKOTB! I've seen them 3x since their big comeback! Does that qualify as obsessed?!? And uh hello, you are NOT a cougar -too young for that :)

  45. Okay, I don't remember how I found your blog and I haven't checked it for a while. But so glad to find someone who shares my old and now rekindled love for NKOTB! My friends just laugh at me about it. I did get to go their concert in November '08, front row!, and got a kiss from Donnie at the meet and greet. Oh my! So glad hubby wasn't there to see me act like a 13 year old again!
